Working with Stone
Stone is one of the oldest materials shaped by human hands.
It can be resistant, fragile, unpredictable and incredibly rewarding to work with. Learning how to carve stone is not simply about mastering tools and techniques. It is about understanding the material, responding to its characteristics and discovering how ideas can emerge through the making process.
Pietra Viva workshops offer an opportunity to engage directly with stone in a focused and highly personalised studio environment.
Every Participant Follows a Different Path
No two participants arrive with the same interests, goals or experience.
Some are jewellers looking to incorporate stone into their practice. Others are artists, designers or complete beginners discovering the material for the first time.
Before the workshop, participants are encouraged to share moodboards, references, artists, project ideas or previous work. Sketches, objects, materials, prototypes and unfinished projects are equally welcome.
These conversations help shape the direction of the workshop, creating a more personal experience built around each participant's interests and creative ambitions.
Beyond the Workshop
Learning a technique is only one part of the process.
Equally important is understanding how to continue working independently once the workshop is over.
Alongside practical demonstrations, we discuss tools, equipment, materials, suppliers and different ways of integrating stone carving into an existing artistic practice.
The goal is not only to teach techniques, but to provide participants with the confidence and knowledge needed to continue exploring stone on their own.
Learn in a Professional Studio
Since 2015, stone has been at the centre of my professional practice.
Pietra Viva workshops take place in the same studio where I develop my own jewellery and sculptural work.
Rather than following a standard classroom format, participants learn within an active creative environment, surrounded by the tools, materials and processes used in my daily practice.
With a maximum of two participants at a time, each workshop offers the opportunity for focused guidance, open discussion and a learning experience shaped around individual interests and goals.
